It’s All A Blur

May 30, 2012 by Long Pham

This past week was all a blur. Work felt like an excruciating pain that just wouldn’t go away. When I raced out of the parking lot on Sunday evening, I realized that it really wasn’t over.

In just over a month, my baby girl will be born. As the due date creeps closer, I realize that I still haven’t had time to finish remodeling the nursery. It’s all been put aside time and time again as I spend precious days off taking my parents to their doctors appointments. My mom, who needs full-time care, depends on me to get her to her regular check-ups. My dad, speaks but a lick of English…so I don’t trust him to go alone and respond “yes” to every question that is asked of him.

It’s a half-hour drive to get to where they live. Another 15 minutes to get loaded up. 15-40 minutes to drive to the location of the appointment. An hour or two at the office. 15-40 minutes to drive them back home. Another 15-30 minutes to unload and get medication organized for the week. And then…finally, a half hour drive home. Most of my day sucked into an abyss.

Coincidentally, all of my mom’s 6 month follow-up appointments run in June. I figured it would be best to just go ahead and knock them out so I wouldn’t have to worry about her appointments while trying to deal with a newborn in July. To top it off, we’re also taking a Childbirth 101 class sponsored by the hospital. It’s going to be a busy month.
