Six Pounds Off

February 4, 2013 by Long Pham

Last week, I went to the doctor’s for a followup. He wanted to see me after my last blood tests came back with high cholesterol…again.

When the medical assistant took me in and weighed me, the machine registered 170 pounds. My eyes almost fell out of their sockets. I couldn’t believe that I gained that much weight. Neither could the doctor.

He scolded me on my recent weight gain, accusing me of eating too much fast food (even though I haven’t) and asked me what happened. I told him that it’s because I’ve been leading a sedentary life for a long time. He said that clinically, he should put me back on medication, but wanted to give me four months to try to get back into shape. I beat it once, and was able to stop taking meds for over a year. I can do it again.

That same night, I went home and decided to weigh myself on the scale at home. I stepped onto it’s cold metallic surface and waited until the electronic beeping stopped. I glanced down and sighed in relief as the display flashed 164 at me. Still slightly overweight, but much better than 170. I promptly jumped on the elliptical machine in the corner of the living room for thirty minutes.
