It’s Not A Sushi Factory

June 24, 2013 by Long Pham

One of the first things I do when I go to a new sushi restaurant is to see whether it is Japanese or Korean. The next thing I do is check to see if it is a “sushi factory.” That’s a term my wife and I came up with to describe sushi restaurants where patrons at the bar don’t order directly through the sushi chef. In other words, all orders go through the wait staff – so there really is no point to having a sushi bar. The beauty of sitting at the sushi bar is being able to order one item at a time, getting your sushi freshly made, and being able to enjoy your food at a slow pace.

Full Moon Sushi is Korean and it is not a sushi factory.

Jeannie found Full Moon on Yelp and has been wanting to try it for quite some time. Unfortunately, since we had the baby, we haven’t been able to sit at a sushi bar. Still, the table service at Full Moon is decent and ordering off the checklist is acceptable. The bad thing about ordering from the checklist is that often our eyes are greedier/hungrier than our stomachs, and we always order too much food.

I was satisfied with the sushi at Full Moon and was impressed that there was a female sushi chef. In all of my travels, I have never seen a single female sushi chef before. I was a little bit worried about the place when I came in and found that it was Korean owned, but my fears were quickly subsided when I tasted the good quality fish. I am also a fan of their fair prices. I’ll be back occasionally.

Scallop Sushi. I really like the fact that they use a piece of jumbo scallop, as opposed to the places that use the tiny cooked scallops enclosed with seaweed wrapper and rice.

Volcano Roll. It’s a California roll baked with scallops and eel sauce. It’s not the jumbo scallop on this roll, but it’s not the tiny ones either – which is great.

Vegetable Tempura. If I remember correctly, this was part of the Udon Bowl.
