I’m not a super huge Apple fan, but I am an iPhone owner. My first one was the 3GS, and the current one is the 5.
A few weeks ago I noticed a couple of black spots showing up on my photos. At first I thought I was getting dead pixels on my display, but I quickly realized there was dust under my camera lens.
A search on the internet revealed that a lot of other people were having the same problem. Most of them brought it in to an Apple store and got a replacement phone.
Of course, one problem follows another. My sleep/wake button is becoming unresponsive at times. I figure now is a good time to get my phone checked out, even if it’s out of warranty.
I go through the simple process of making an appointment at the Genius Bar and make the trip to the mall. I check in with a guy who works there and sit down on a barstool at the deep end of the store.
While I was waiting, I listen to the interactions some of the employees are having with customers. Then, it’s my turn. The guy who is helping me tells me that I’m out of warranty and pretty close to the end of my contract. They can’t fix the problems I’m having because of the design of the phone and they no longer provide replacements for phones out of warranty because of widespread abuse.
Luckily, I can live with the problems I’m having. Anyhow, the point of this story is that I was pretty damn impressed with the professionalism and demeanor of the t-shirt wearing employees at the Apple store. Weird because I was basically sent away with the problems I came in with. Maybe they played a Jedi mind trick on me…
Talk to me, Goose.
