Rothschild’s is an Italian restaurant located near Fashion Island in Newport Beach (the restaurant resides on the Corona Del Mar side of PCH). It’s a small restaurant that is sectioned off into an entry/bar area, a slightly larger dining area in the adjoining room, and a small private upstairs hall. The decor is kind of old world, geared towards a different generation, but the food is good.
I think Rothschild’s used to be a higher profile kind of place, because it has entertained the likes of Elizabeth Taylor. I even got to meet Reggie Jackson there once. Anyways, if you’re in the South County area and are looking to have Italian with a higher level of service, this is a place you should try.
There is a small lot in the back of the restaurant where you can valet your car. Or, if you’re a do it yourself kind of guy like me, just park on the street in the residential tract.
Rothschild’s Fine Italian – Corona Del Mar
Garlic bread that is created from a thick slice of baguette with a soft center. It had a great buttery, garlicky, cheesy flavor.
Three kinds of cheese filled ravioli on one dish. They’re stuffed with mushrooms, peas, and proscuitto. We ordered this as part of our onslaught of appetizers. Great flavors and there was care to layer the sauce evenly as to not drown the pasta.
It’s a salad with grilled chicken as a topping. We got the dressing on the side.
It’s a plate of egg and spinach fettuccine with shrimp, crab, and clams. The presentation for this dish isn’t so awesome, but it’s pretty good.
Thick cuts of lamb chop served with potatoes and vegetables. It was good, but I thought it had a little too much sauce at the bottom of the plate and the potatoes were over seasoned with herbs.
Who could resist an ice cream pie? This dessert is made in house.
Talk to me, Goose.
