Yes, I’m talking about Anaheim food again. And just for you hoity-toity residents in the canyon, there is no such thing as the City of Anaheim Hills. You live in the City of Anaheim, period. Anaheim Hills is just the name of the entire community located on the eastern portion of Anaheim. Off rant.
We heard about Siam Savory from one of my wife’s co-workers. They happen to live around the corner and went shortly after it opened. Two things she said that stood out to us. It is cheap, and it is good. Naturally, we went to go check it out.
The restaurant is located in the south end of a strip mall that is headlined by Ralphs grocery store. It is tiny, but it’s close enough to a huge residential area, which makes it perfect for a convenient take-out restaurant. The decor is minimalist, but still very Thai. Service is relatively quick, and yes…the food is good. I think the only weird thing was that they charge for each portion of rice. Still, it’s worth checking out.
Siam Savory Thai Cuisine – Anaheim
The ubiquitous Thai Iced Tea. Refreshing, slightly creamy, and satisfying. It’s a good drink to have around when you’re ordering spicy dishes.
Papaya Salad. At first, I didn’t think it was too spicy. I was wrong. The spice slowly crept in and kicked my ass.
Green Curry with Tofu. It’s Tofu, Eggplant, Green Beans, Bamboo, and Red Bell Pepper in a Green Curry that goes great over rice.
Pad Thai. Ever time I visit a new Thai restaurant I order this noodle dish. It’s very generic, but it’s a good meal to judge the restaurant by since it’s usually made with similar ingredients. Not the best I’ve had, but it was good.
Siam Savory Catfish. This was quite the unique dish. The catfish batter had a strong taste of curry powder. The basil was lightly fried, giving it an interesting crispy texture. Kind of addicting.
Mango with Sweet Sticky Rice. When mango is season, you need to order this dessert. The mango is sweet and goes well with the rice, which has a nice light coconut milk flavor.
Talk to me, Goose.
