Ice cream? Yes. Always, yes.
In the darkness along College Ave. in Berkeley, a shining light beckons to passersby. Anyone who fails to notice will surpass a frozen treasure chest filled with delicious and exotic flavors from around the world.
Walk in and you’ll be greeted by a friendly attendant who will let you sample flavors from a real spoon. The ice cream tastes fresh and light (not overtly flavored). The smell of fresh waffle cones being made lingers in the air tempting you to skip the cup and go straight for a cone to enjoy ice cream like a kid.
Tara’s Organic Ice Cream – Berkeley
You will never regret!
They make their own waffle cones. You can get it plain or with sesame seeds.
Basic flavors like chocolate, mint chip, and peanut butter are available. You can also get yorba mate, epazote, sage, saffron, and so on. It seems like the flavors change often, so you can be sure that different flavors will be available each time you visit. I had orange cardamom and mint chip in a plain cone.
If you don’t live near a Tara’s, and you’re really jonesing for organic ice cream, you can order online and have 4 or 8 pints shipped to you via Fed Ex. It won’t be cheap, but it will be worth it.
Talk to me, Goose.
