When I initially started this website, one of the major problems I had was finding a good domain name. Since there are already so many finance blogs out there, a lot of my “a-ha” ideas and names happened to already be taken. There were a lot of play on words, themes of personal finance, and what-not. Some of them pretty lame, and some of them quite obvious.
I happened upon Budget For Wealth and took a liking to the name immediately. It was easy to come up with a tagline, “Get Rich On A Budget” too. It didn’t really have much meaning at first, but when I started thinking about how I led my life and how I have changed the management of my finances, it started to jell together.
One Rule – One Step
Many personal finance gurus have a single steadfast rule that you must follow in order to accumulate wealth. Some say that a budget is the most important aspect of financial planning. Others say “pay yourself first.” Some say make it “automatic,” or “baby steps.” You know what? They all work.
The problem is that the people who read financial advice aren’t always able to follow the one rule. They manage to find a way to break the rule. Why is that so?
Because personal finance management is so much more than one rule. Personal finance encompasses your life. If you mash up all those rules, they start to work. But if you take advice as a stand alone do all-tell all, then you are destined to fail.
So, if my goal is to make finances and investing easy – why does it seem so complicated?
Because the people who stand to make money off of you make it complicated!
What This Blog Is About
Let’s get back to what Budget For Wealth is for a moment.
I do not believe in budgeting as a way to control spending. It doesn’t work. Seriously, no matter how much you argue it, it doesn’t work. Take for example, personal budgets for you or your family. Let’s say that you budgeted $200 for groceries for an entire month because you feel like you need to cut back on your expenses. Towards the end of the month, you realize that you didn’t budget enough because you bought too many proteins and some organic produce (which you think is healthier, but costs a lot more). What are you going to do now? Starve?
I’ve chatted with a lot of so-called finance do-gooders. They say, “that’s when you have to go into your cupboards.” Or, “break out the canned goods.” Really? Are you going to do that? No, you’re not. They’re not either. We don’t like to live like that, and it’s OK to admit it. You don’t have to shame yourself for failing to stick to a budget. Hell, I wouldn’t do it. I would just go to the store and buy more food.
Why Budget For Wealth then? Because if there is anything that you can control, it’s your time and money. They are synonymous.
Budget For Wealth will teach you how to get rid of excessive debt, accumulate wealth, and earn your freedom.
Budget For Wealth means that you need to budget time and resources to free yourself of debt and save money for your future. It means that you need to think of wealth as extra time, extra resources, and happiness instead of an evil accumulation of money. It means that you have to work hard and slowly free yourself from the slavery of how society thinks you should run your life, so that you can truly follow your dreams and achieve your goals.
The tagline, “Get Rich On A Budget,” means that you can do it with the money you make now. Of course, making more money will always speed up the process to freedom, but it is possible even if you have difficulty increasing your income. I understand that there are many obstacles in life for people. I have faced them.
Remember, being rich doesn’t mean that you have to have as much money as Warren Buffet or Bill Gates. There is no artificial number that you must achieve to consider yourself rich. My definition of rich is having enough money to live off of so I can spend the rest of my life doing what I please with my family and friends.
That’s what this blog is about. It is an educational resource to teach you what you need to do to get rid of excessive debt, accumulate wealth, and earn your freedom.
Point The Way
If you came to this blog to read about how cleaning your fridge is going to save you a few dollars every year, or how to knit a sweater to save yourself money, this is not the blog for you. Go to another website, quickly.
I have spent the last few months transforming this website, so over the next few years, readers can learn how to reach financial freedom. I will introduce you to new ways of thinking, the steps you need to take to secure your independence, and exactly how you will do it.
There are many steps that you will have to take. You may have to work more. You may have to work harder. You may have to get more education. Some of the things you will have to do will not be easy. Some of them will be easy. You will have to give up things. You will have to sacrifice the free time that you have in order to earn more free time later. You will have to depend on yourself to make it all happen. The people around you will not change. You have to take responsibility for yourself. It will require patience. At times, it will be hard, but I will be here to support you. I will lead the way.
